Is there anything special to do to copy all the database files from 2010 to 2011.

Hello,

The transfer of Advance Steel databases from a older version to the latest one is done by using the "Merge database" command avaliable in the Management Tools. Here, you are asked to select the source database, which in your case it will be the AS 2010 one. The AS 2011 one is automaticlly considered the one already installed, so the function will not ask you about it.
You can merge any database except one : AstorAddIn.mdb. This database that stores the custom made settings in various areas like Drawing Styles or BoM templates doesn't support merging, and in order to use it with Advance Steel 2011, you'll simply need to copy over the existing one and overwrite it.

Would the same be applied when upgrading from 2009 to 2010 or 2011?

Hello David

For upgrade from AS 2009 to AS 2011 you have to update first from AS 2009 to AS2010 and after that to AS 2011.

As Dumitru BERTEANU is explaining in the previous post  there 2 type of databases one which you have to use the merge tool from the MT( e.g. AstorBase, AstorSettings, AstorProfiles) and one which you have to copy from a version to the other one( AstorAddin).

So, first step will be to merge the databases from AS2009 to AS 2010 and after that the one from AS 2010 to AS 2011.

Best regards

Hi Guys,

I can't seem to find this "Merge database" command, I can open both 2010 & 2011 databases, but struggling to transfer/update the data from 10 to 11.

Thanks

James,

It is not in the database itself. It is in Advance Steel, under Management Tools.

MT is on the Standard toolbar, on the right hand side. Is has a blue T in front of an orange M.

Dear all,

The exact name of the button (in the Management Tools) is "Convert database".

I recommand you to read this FAQ to better understand what needs to be done to convert databases from Advance Steel 2010 to Advance Steel 2011 : http://www.graitec.com/en/FAQ_view.asp?FAQID=678&Language=EN
