• Migrating from 2012 to 2013

Advance Steel 2013 brings its own new tool palette, which contains all the necessary commands for Advance Steel with both AS features and necessary CAD options. This tool palette can be started on AutoCAD from a button found on AS Tools ribbon (see the attached picture).
The AutoCAD tool palette can still be used in parallel, but it will no longer contain AS commands.

  • Getting Advance Steel installed with imperial settings

You can convert the current version of Advance Steel to run imperial, but this will involve obtaining many of the specific imperial configuration file present in the Advance Steel installation. We recommand you uninstalling the software and installing it in the correct language version. The steps required are :
    - uninstall Advance Steel from the "Uninstall" button on the Advance Setup.
    - delete the following folder : C:\ProgramData\Graitec\Advance Steel\2013 to remove the metric configurations (proffered sizes, templates, prototypes etc.)
    - install Advance Steel with the Advance Setup with the US/Canada language.
Reinstalling Advance Steel with the steps above will not reset or remove the license present on the computer, and you don't need to make any action to re-active it.
  • The same parts give the different part number

The two pair of objects you mention are quite different in geometry one from the other one. Parts 116 and 129 have the hole exactly in the middle of the plate, while 121 and 128 have the hole slightly offcentred (on one direction is fine, at the middle, while on the other one there are ~5mm off the centre of the plate). This difference in hole placement triggers the numbering behaviour, where those objects get a different mark from each other.
  • How long should it take to download the advance steel package?

The Advance Steel setup needs to download about 3Gb of data during the installation, making the time required to install dependent on the internet download speed available on your side, so it can last from 20 minutes up to several hours.
  • The same parts give the different part number

You can find double hole features by using the Advance Audit command, which can be found on the "Extending modeling" ribbon / Checking category. When used, you will recieve a warning in the command line similar to this :

[2881]   : AtomicElement : double Hole Feature found

To identify it, you need to use the object handle id , which is displayed in the first part of the line : [2881]

To find this feature you can use the information from the following FAQ : http://www.graitec.com/en/FAQ_view.asp?FAQID=878&Language=EN&Name=How+is+a+feature%2C+identified+by+an+Audit+that+cannot+be+processed+%2F+deleted%2C+found%3F

  • The same parts give the different part number

The numbering difference comes from the part 110 which has some of the hole patterns doubled (there are two hole patterns one over the other one). Double features (holes are considered beam features) represents a criteria that triggers a different between the objects during Identical Part Detection, performed by the Advance Steel numbering.

In order to fix it and allow AS to give the same mark to those objects, you need to fix the model. You either need to "double" the holes on the objects that has single holes, or remove the extra ones from part 110.

I've attached a picture in which I highlighted the places on part 110 that contains double holes. You can see that by selecting with click one of those holes, and pressing delete. This will leave you with a hole there (the other one) rather then deleting the hole.

  • The same parts give the different part number

Please send us the model in which you expirience those issues with identical part detection. You can attach it to the forum by using the "Attach file" option.

  • PDF File Size

The size of the printed files will be smaller with the next service pack for Advance Steel 2013 which brings improvements to the printing mechanism.

Service Pack 1 for AS 2013 will be available shortly for installation.

  • Error message when extracting "Material List summary" BOM

The error message is given because in the path of the model you have a dash character #.
Please rename the folder "OBRA#1736-ESTRUCTURA ESTACIONAMIENTO to a name without the # character, and the extract will be created.
  • Does AS work without AutoCad?

Advance Steel 2013 starts with Auto CAD only on your side due to the license which is a AS.P7, that doesn't have the Advance CAD (Standalone) option enabled. GAM still allows you to set "Standalone" in the interface, but because the license doesn't have Advance CAD, Advance Steel will automatically start on an Auto CAD platform, if available on the computer.
