Julio,

Are you saying that the Revit file has to be exported first using the Graitec BIM exchange software in Revit?

Hi M Parker,

You have to download the AdvanceSteelplug in that works in Revit. That plugin is free on the Autodesk website. This plugin will create a gtcx file of your Revit model. We suggest isolating the structure on a layer in Revit. Everything you wish to transfer to AdvanceSteel from Revit should be on a seperate layer called structure, for exemple. This file can then be imported into AdvanceSteel. To do so you have to open a new project in AdvanceSteel, go into "Expport/Import" ribon and select the import command under the Revit flyout.

Regards.

Hello Mr. Parker,

In order to import a Revit file into Advance Steel, we recommend you to install Graitec BIM Connect 2015. It is compatible with REVIT 2015 and REVIT Structure 2015.
Please find below the link where you can download the plug-in:
http://www.graitec.com/en/revit.asp
On that page you will also find a history of all the modifications and improvements done lately.
Make sure that at the moment you install the plug-in, Revit is closed.
After the instalation is complete, you will notice the Bim Connect tab in the Add-ins menu, where you will find the Export and Import options. Use the Export command in order to transfer your project from Revit into a *.gtcx format, which you can then import into Advance Steel without any problem. The import operation works in a similar way.

Regards,

Flavia Miclausi

Thank you for the tip on the layers. When I tried to export the file from Revit it took hours and wanted to export all the materials. Then It took a very long time to import the model into Advance Steel due to all the material mappings and I still didn't get what I wnated from Revit.

We just need the gridlines from the architectural mode. If I put those on a separate layer will Graitec export only that layer? How do I tell the export command to ignore everything else? I didn't see anything in the dialog box that would allow me to do that. Or do frozen layers get ignored?

thank you for your help.

Hello Mr Parker,

I have attached a PDF on how to export grids from Revit Structure into Advance Steel. You can Export the grid as a .dwg format and import it into Advance steel.

I have som links from the Autodesk site that explains how thi is done. You can use them as a reference.
