How are the load cases and the load combinations defined in Advance Design Steel Connection? For the connections generated in Advance Design Steel Connection, the efforts and the corresponding load combinations must be defined.

We will use as an example the beam to beam "Moment End Plate" connection.

To define loads, the "Loads" window must be opened using the "Forces" icon from the "Tools" toolbar.

On the right side of the "Loads" window, the user must select the loads, that later will be included in the load combinations. For this example the following load cases are selected: the dead load case; the live load case and the wind load case.

On the left side of the "Load" window, the user must insert the values for each load case effort (the axial effort, Nx; the shear effort, Vz; the bending moment, My). These efforts are applied only for the secondary element.

After the load cases are defined, the load combinations must be generated using the "Combinations" option. This option will open the "Table/Combinations" window. In this window the load coefficients can be defined and the load combination can be generated using the "Generate" option.

The only load case that cannot be included in a load combination is "ELU case". This load case is used in the joint calculation, directly with the inserted value, without any coefficient.

The connection will be verified for all M, N V efforts corresponding to each load combination:
