In Advance Design the user can define rules for the analysis results. The rules can be applied for forces, stresses, steel and/or concrete calculation results. This command is useful for limiting results for efforts, reinforcement areas, solicitation levels etc. in selected elements.

In the current example, the forces and the reinforcement areas for a cantilever beam with a point load at the free end will not exceed predefined values.

How is the 'Rules definition' command used

After defining the structural model, the user can define the rules in the "Rules manager" window which is accessed from the "Assumptions - Rules definitions" menu.

How is the 'Rules definition' command used

In the "Rules Manager", click the "Add new rule" button. A rule, for each verification or group of elements, will be created.

1. Name: the name of the rule for better identification in reports

2. Filter: select the element or the group of elements for which the rule refers.

3. Results: select the result type for which the limitation is imposed.

4. Allowable value: insert the value for the comparison.

5. Enabled: enables or disables the display of the rule in the report.

After the rule customization, click the "Add to the calculation report" and confirm with "OK". The Rules can be declared both in "Model" and in "Analysis".

To display the results, the model must be analyzed with the corresponding calculations (steel or concrete) defined in the rules list. The rules results are displayed as tables by accessing "Documents - Generate a new report" from the menu. In the report generator window select "Table - Rules table" and add it in the generation list.

How is the 'Rules definition' command used

Click "Generate" and the viewer program will open with the results tables:

We can see that for the current example the analysis values exceed the reference values. Whenever the limits are exceeded, Advance Design will mark these rules as red.
