Create a model in Autodesk Revit. You can use Autodesk Revit Structure 2009, 2010, 2011 or Architecture 2009, 2010, 2011.
For example, create a structure with two levels. A part of the structure is created from steel beams, columns and bracings and the other part is created from concrete beams and columns. The walls and slabs over the levels are made from concrete. Some joints are created between bracings and beams.
To export this model in the Graitec internal format with .gtc extension you need the Graitec Revit Link plug-in.
If none of the elements are selected then the entire model will be exported. If some elements are selected then you can choose to export only those elements by clicking the "Yes" button from the "Export selection" dialog window or you can export the entire model by clicking the "No" button.
To obtain the file with the .gtc extension use the "Graitec Export" command.
A dialog window is opened and you should uncheck the "Automatic software launch" option.
Then click the OK button.
In the "Save As" window choose the location where you want to save the exported file.
Wait a few moments until the "Create a log file?" dialog box appears. Click the "Yes" button if you want to generate a report.
The report contains information about the number of exported elements and lists the elements that cannot be exported.
Open Advance Steel.
The file with the .gtc extension can be imported into Advance Steel using the "GRAITEC BIM import" command from the "Additional tools" menu or from the "AS Tools" ribbon.
If one of the steel or concrete column or beam sections created in Revit has no corresponding section in Advance Steel, a dialog box will appear where you can choose a corresponding section.
If a material does not exist in Advance Steel it may be necessary to select a suitable material for the conversion.
Finally the model is successfully imported.
