Consider the following:

We want to verify the structure's elements in accordance to a deflection limit of 1/150 for dead loads and 1/250 for live loads. We proceed as follows:

During the element creation:

  • In the elements properties list, define the allowed deflection limit.
  • How are the two deflection criteria from the steelwork design properties list used

  • After generating the load case combinations, right click Combinations (in the Pilot) and select Properties to access the following dialog box:
  • How are the two deflection criteria from the steelwork design properties list used

Click Add to insert one or more combinations. In this example, combination 113 groups the live loads and combination 114 groups the dead loads.

  • Click Steel to access the following table:

How are the two deflection criteria from the steelwork design properties list used

The combinations with the codes "ECELSFRQ" and "ECELSQPM" have already been created with the combination generator (in compliance with Eurocode 0), but we can add combinations of personalized loads like 113 and 114.

We define the combinations that allow setting the deflection criteria 1 and 2. By default, the automatically generated combinations are assigned to the first deflection criterion and the user defined combinations (113 and 114 in this case) are not displayed. To add the two combinations, click Modify list, select the two combinations and insert them.

In the Type column, select the appropriate criterion for each combination.

During the post-processing:

The results obtained for the first deflection criterion represent the deformation (strain) caused by the combinations for which it was assigned. The same applies for the second deflection criterion.
