I have a model I am working on and went to go to document manager and received an error.

stair/shop drawing/model/stair/detail/13.upd corrupted file.

Then the computer asked me to acknowledge this error:

ASTEXTDocrequired.error:/currentjobs/bulkresources/stair/shopdrawing/model/stair/detail/13.upd corrupted file.

Then the computer starts checking created doc and has been on that for over an hour.

Remove the upd file before opening Document manager. The upd file can be removed without a problem, as Advance Steel will create a new one when required (you will not loose any data by removing the file). You could also de-register the dwg file, and then register it back (by removing the upd file associated to it first). Advance Steel will create a new and correct upd file during registering.
