With Advance Steel 2018, when we "Force Update" after making changes to the main model it sometimes causes dimensions and/or labels to either disappear or move around unexpectedly on the sheets.  We have tried changing several settings without any success.  It does not not do this on every computer every time, it appears to be sporadic.

Dear Bryan,

DIMENSION-HOW TO RECTIFY MOVING DIMENSIONS AFTER UPDATE

Try using Insert Point or Delete Point to modify existing automatic dimension chains as much as possible instead of creating new chains.

Deleted automatic dimensions should not come back on update unless there is somethign new to dimension (e.g. new holes rather than moved holes).

When moving existing labels and dims use the grips. Normally AS will remember the new positions.

When adding dimensions, or inserting points on existing dimensions, only use the osnap "Preferred for Manual Dimensions" and no other snap.
Any dimesnion point to any other snap point WILL disappear on update.

You will get a warning on the command line when you use any other snap and a red circle around the suspect point.

DIMENSIONS –HOW TO RECTIFY MOVING DIMENSIONS AFTER UPDATE

  • Open the ASMT Advance Steel Management Tools

  • Go to Settings>Defaults

  • Select Use filter and type Update in the filter field

  • Select Drawing –Dimensioning and highlight General

  • Select Don’t erase any manual dimension point

  • Select the icon to the top far right “Load settings in Advance”

  • Go back to your model and select Update Defaults from the Home tab.

Open the Objects snaps and disable all your object snaps, keeping only, Endpoint midpoint and node.

Clear all the object snaps on the 3D object snap panel.
Select "Preffered for Manual Dimensions" on the Steel Osnap tab.

You can insert or remove dimension points to or from a chain of dimensions using the Insert point tool on the Labels & Dimensions tab on the Parametric Dimensions panel.

Save and close the drawing then repeat Updates and the dimensions should stick.

I hope this helps.

Best regards,
Janet
