The two most frequent issues new users run into are:

- Forgetting to weld single parts to a main part. This results in single parts being incorrectly identified as main parts.
- The second is incorrectly modifying a single part located on several main parts. This results in an incorrect numbering scheme.

This document explains how to resolve these issues without changing main part marks not affected by the modifications. Both issues have similar solutions to correct part numbering and drawings.

1. Forgetting to weld single parts to a main part

When you forget to weld single parts to a main part, the single parts are recognized as main parts during drawing creation. Follow these steps to correct this issue.

a. Erase the assembly drawing for the single part recognized as a main part in the "DOCUMENT MANAGER".
b. Erase the incorrect numbering:

Set the Advance Steel numbering toggle to assembly parts by clicking the first icon on the Numbering toolbar so that it becomes completely blue (orange in 5.1). Next, select the single part and use the second icon (Delete Parts Numbers) on the second flyout of the numbering toolbar. Select the single part again and click the last icon (Ungroup identical parts) on the second flyout of the numbering toolbar.

How are objects modified after drawing creation and what are the numbering consequences?

Warning: Before clicking the modification icons (i.e., ungroup and delete numbers) the object(s) must be selected or it will erase the entire numbering.

c. Next, weld the pieces together.

Repeat the numbering (for assemblies) for the entire model.
If the single part drawing was created, in the Document Manager, an update should be required for the main part. Update the assembly drawing and the single part should be welded to the main part.
If the single part drawing was not created, create it and then, in the Document Manager, update the assembly drawing.

2. Modifying a single part located on more than one main part

There are two possible cases:

- When identical single parts are on non-identical main parts
- When identical single parts are on identical main parts

For the first case, a change will affect the single parts. For the second case, you must follow the correct procedure or the assembly numbers will not correspond.

When identical single parts are on non-identical main parts

a. Modify the single part.
b. Set the Advance Steel numbering toggle to single parts by clicking the first icon on the Numbering toolbar so that it becomes blue and yellow (Orange and blue in 5.1). Then ungroup identical single parts to separate the modified single parts. Select the modified single part and click the last icon (Ungroup identical parts) on the second flyout of the numbering toolbar. The modified piece is tagged with a single part mark of "Not defined".
c. Perform a numbering over the entire model to assign a number and prefix to the new single part.
d. Select the modified piece and create the single part drawing by selection.
e. In the Document manager, update the assembly drawing.

When identical single parts are on identical main parts

The difference from the first case is the main part also requires a modification because the assembly numbers change due to modifications on the single parts.

The modified piece is tagged with a single part mark of "Not defined".
c. After modifying the single part, the main part mark must be changed. Click the first icon on the numbering toolbar so that it is entirely blue (Orange in 5.1).
d. Ungroup identical main parts to separate the modified single parts from the initial group. Select the modified main part and click the last icon (Ungroup identical parts) on the second flyout of the numbering toolbar. Verify that it worked by checking that the main part mark is tagged as "Not defined".
e. Perform a numbering over the entire model to give a number and prefix to the new single and main parts.
f. Create the drawing for the new single and main parts. Select them and create the drawing by selection.
g. In the Document manager, perform an update.
h. Verify that the drawings have different main part marks.
