• RE: Force update causes dimensions and labels to disappear and or move around

    Dear Bryan,

DIMENSION-HOW TO RECTIFY MOVING DIMENSIONS AFTER UPDATE

Try using Insert Point or Delete Point to modify existing automatic dimension chains as much as possible instead of creating new chains.

Deleted automatic dimensions should not come back on update unless there is somethign new to dimension (e.g. new holes rather than moved holes).

When moving existing labels and dims use the grips. Normally AS will remember the new positions.

When adding dimensions, or inserting points on existing dimensions, only use the osnap "Preferred for Manual Dimensions" and no other snap.
Any dimesnion point to any other snap point WILL disappear on update.

You will get a warning on the command line when you use any other snap and a red circle around the suspect point.

DIMENSIONS –HOW TO RECTIFY MOVING DIMENSIONS AFTER UPDATE

    • Open the ASMT Advance Steel Management Tools

    • Go to Settings>Defaults

    • Select Use filter and type Update in the filter field

    • Select Drawing –Dimensioning and highlight General

    • Select Don’t erase any manual dimension point

    • Select the icon to the top far right “Load settings in Advance”

    • Go back to your model and select Update Defaults from the Home tab.

Open the Objects snaps and disable all your object snaps, keeping only, Endpoint midpoint and node.

Clear all the object snaps on the 3D object snap panel.
Select "Preffered for Manual Dimensions" on the Steel Osnap tab.

You can insert or remove dimension points to or from a chain of dimensions using the Insert point tool on the Labels & Dimensions tab on the Parametric Dimensions panel.

Save and close the drawing then repeat Updates and the dimensions should stick.

    I hope this helps.

    Best regards,
    Janet

  • How can I get the stair to display properly?

Dear Lawrence,This seems to be an isolated issue. It might be stemming from many things for example the drawing style or process you are using, the placement of your ucs, the depth of the view according to the UCS....Please send the model to your local Support team where an agent will be pleased to look at the issue.Best regards, janet
  • The problems with visual styles (Wireframe and Conceptual ) after update Advance Steel 2017 to 2017.1.

Dear Lawrence,As per our telephone call moments ago. This is a known issue when saving in a shaded mode that you can no longer see some objects. I tell clients to work as much in 2D wireframe as this does not happen. I use the regen command or as you said what worked for you is to use the all visible tool. You said that this is happening since you upgraded the AutoCAD 2017. This might be CAD related and Autodesk needs to know. According to Autodesk it is a known issue with unfortunately, the only true workaround is to uninstall the update 1Best Regards,Janet
  • What files and directories are needed to take one <br/>users customizations to another users computer?

Dear Phillip,I have attached a PDF of the Advance Steel Astor bases and their location along with their descriptions relating to what they are linked with. It also describes which databases get converted and which databases you just copy and paste. To avoid lengthy updating copy your Prototypes to the relevant folder in Advance Steel 2017. Open the file with Advance Steel. Use the Save as option, and select AutoCAD® 2013 as the file format. Custom connections (user joints) are saved as dwg files, so to convert them and make the custom joints from Advance Steel 2016 available in 2017 version, it is required to: Copy the dwg file to the Advance Steel 2017 path. Advance Steel 2016custom connections are stored in the following path: C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Advance Steel 2016\Shared\ConnectionTemplates. The destination folder associated to Advance Steel 2017 is: C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Advance Steel 2017\Shared\ConnectionTemplates.You can also export your setting from the Management tools so everyone is using the same format. See Attachment. As you can only upload o I hope this helps, Regards, Janet
